Manuel Ugarte’s future with Paris Saint-Germain is uncertain, as his name is caught up in the transfer speculations. A recent report from journalist Graeme Bailey reveals that Chelsea are club keen on the Uruguayan as a replacement for a certain player.

Despite a fantastic start to his debut season, the Uruguayan midfielder’s performance dipped, causing him to become a substitute more often. Last summer, Chelsea competed with PSG for Ugarte while he was still with Sporting Lisbon.

Now, it seems the Premier League club is renewing their interest in the 23-year-old to potentially replace Conor Gallagher. The midfielder’s contract expires next season and the Blues will have to make a decision on him if they’re unable to reach an agreement, which is where Ugarte comes in.

Transfer window specialist Fabrizio Romano revealed the latest on Gallagher and Chelsea’s conversations over a new contract.

“My latest understanding is that there’s still no conversation between Chelsea and Gallagher over a new deal, so it’s up to the club to decide what they want to do,” Romano said in his recent column for CaughtOffside

“There’s interest from several clubs but I’m not hearing about anything being close or concrete now, the usual interest from many clubs, including Tottenham, is there, but there’s nothing new in terms of negotiations.”

If Gallagher’s time with the London-based club is over, it will be interesting to see if they circle back on Ugarte and give PSG an offer that makes them feel comfortable letting the player go.
