Ex Man United Veteran Hails Inter Milan Serie A Title Triumph: ‘We’ve Done Something Incredible’

Matteo Darmian feels that Inter Milan “have done something incredible” with this season’s Serie A title win.

The former Manchester United veteran spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews, during the Nerazzurri’s trophy presentation, following their clash with Lazio.

Darmian has now won his second Serie A title.

The Italian international had gotten his hands on the title in his very first season with Inter, the 2020-21 campaign.

But this time around, there is an even greater sense of release for Inter.

The Nerazzurri have failed to win the title in each of the past two campaigns, Darmian’s second and third with the club.

In the 2021-22 season, Inter missed out by the narrowest of margins. They lost out to city rivals AC Milan on the final day of the campaign.

Then last time around, Inter were nowhere near runaway champions Napoli.

The way that the last couple of seasons have gone has certainly been a testament to how difficult winning the Serie A title is.

But Inter found their best form for virtually the entirety of the campaign.

The last couple of weeks have seen some dropped points as the Nerazzurri have taken their foot off the gas a bit following clinching the title in the derby against AC Milan last month.

However, up to that point, Inter had been close to flawless in the league. They won the title by a massive margin.

Darmian spoke about the importance of “Humility and sacrifice.”

“We’ve done something incredible,” added the 34-year-old.

As far as how he plays at the level he does well into his thirties, Darmian said “Experience.”

“When my legs don’t get me there, my head does. I always try to train well, and feel at my best.”

As far as Inter’s style of play under Simone Inzaghi, Darmian said that “We know what we have to do on the pitch. The positions that we have to take up, no matter who’s on the pitch.”

“That’s important in modern football,” he added. “Because it can create problems for the opponent. And you see the results.”
