'He showed up on the Grammys naked,' Current WWE champion claims John Cena’s Hollywood career went downhill after WrestleMania 39 defeat
Hali Tauxe/IndyStar / USA TODAY NETWORK

Austin Theory has shown the WWE Universe why he is one of the top rising stars in the company. He has already accomplished many things in his short career, like winning the United States Championship and the WWE Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania XL. However, one of the most important wins in his career was against John Cena at WrestleMania 39.

While speaking on the Going Ringside podcast, Austin Theory said that John Cena‘s Hollywood career went downhill after his loss at the Show of Shows. Although at first, he took credit and said that he helped salvage Cena’s acting career, Theory saw his naked appearance at the Oscars and his cameo as a mermaid in “Barbie” as an embarrassment.

Even though the former U.S. Champion did pick up the victory against the Leader of the Cenation, his wrestling career didn’t skyrocket either. There was no doubt in anybody’s mind that the 27-year-old star wasn’t lacking in talent, but he never properly connected with the audience. However, it looked like he finally found his groove, as he won the WWE Tag Team Titles with Grayson Waller at WrestleMania XL.

I mean, I did help John Cena out a lot with his Hollywood career, you know. I mean, well, actually, it might have went down a little bit, you know, because he showed up on the Grammys naked, he became a mermaid in Barbie, you know, after he lost to WrestleMania to Austin Theory. Meanwhile, the 16-time world champion made his last appearance on an episode of Raw after WrestleMania. He came out and helped R-Truth and The Miz secure a victory against Judgment Day. It’s not known exactly when Cena will return to WWE, but seeing the dynamics between both stars after his controversial comments will be interesting.

#DIY sent a warning to the duo of Austin Theory and Grayson Waller

Since they won the WWE Tag Team Championships, A-Town Down Under has a target on their back. Many tag teams are trying to take those titles off their shoulders. One of those tag teams is #DIY, who were transferred to SmackDown during the recently concluded 2024 WWE Draft.

While speaking on SmackDown LowDown, the duo immediately set their sights on the tag team titles. Johnny Gargano shared a lot of history with Theory and Waller individually and stated that they were determined to win the gold, no matter who stood in their way. Meanwhile, Tommaso Ciampa said that their approach would be completely different compared to their time on the red brand.

The agenda is #DIY Tag Team Gold 2024, no matter who steps in our way. Look, I've a long history with both Austin Theory and Grayson Waller. That is the endgame. Johnny Gargano via SmackDown LowDown

Unfortunately, #DIY hasn’t been able to replicate the success they achieved with the black and gold brand. It will be interesting to see whether changing brands alters their luck on the main roster or not.
